St Louis Area Single Family Building Permits Up over 12 Percent

According to information released by the Home Builders Association of St. Louis & Eastern Missouri (HBA), building permit activity in the St. Louis area through October of this year, is up over 12 percent from the same time last year.

For the seven-county area the HBA reports on, there have been 2,603 single-family building permits issued through October 2010, compared with 2,321 for the same period in 2009 and 2,576 in 2008. Warren county saw the largest one-year increase with an increase of over 35 percent from 2009 to 2010, followed by St. Charles County at 21 percent.  The city of St. Louis saw the biggest decline with almost an 8 percent decrease for the same period.

Granted, it would be better to see new home SALES increasing rather than permits, but hopefully this is a sign that new home demand may be picking up.
