St. Louis New Home Construction Heating Up!

St. Louis new home construction activity continues to increase and is off to a good start for the year.  There were 240 new home building permits issued in February in the St. Louis area*, just slightly ahead of January’s 239 permits.  Year to date permits issued for 2013 is up 53 percent from the same time last year, according to the latest permit data available from the Home Builders Association of St. Louis and Eastern Missouri. On a national level, new home building permits issued in February were at an annual rate of 600,000 homes, an increase of 25.5 percent from February 2012 and an increase of 2.7 percent from January.  New home starts in February were at an annual rate of 618,000 homes, a 0.5 percent increase from January and a 31.5 percent increase from February, 2012.  There were 39,200 new homes completed in the U.S. in February, up from 37,200 the month before and up 33 percent from February 2012 when there were 29,400 new homes completed.  New homes completed in February 2013 were at an annual rate of 574,000 homes, up slightly from January’s rate of 554,000 homes.
