What type of home buyers visit an open house?

It’s Sunday and that means that many potential home buyers will spend time this afternoon visiting an open house, as will nosey neighbors, people looking for decorating ideas and people with time on their hands looking for something to do.  So, what type of home buyers visit an open house?  Below are the results of a survey conducted by the National Association of REALTORS addressing this question:
The “typical” home buyer that visits an open house is:
  • A repeat home buyer as opposed to a first time home buyer
  • Forty-five to 64 yeas of age
  • Most likely a married couple

Other open house facts:

  • 45% of home buyers said they used open houses in their home buying process
  • The south is the most popular region of the U.S. for home buyers to visit open houses
  • Buyers looking for a new home (rather than existing) were more likely to attend open houses
  • Buyers that were not born in the U.S. are more likely to use open houses than someone born in the U.S.
  • Buyers who do not speak english are more likely to attend open houses than someone that speaks english.
